Blue Spring State Park is listed on the Great Florida Birding Trail and recreational activities include swimming, canoeing, tubing, picnicking, snorkeling, certified cave diving, kayak tours and rentals, fishing, boating, hiking and birding. Vacation cabins, RV sites and primitive camping are located in the sandpine scrub, home to a growing number of Florida scrub-jays. Self-guided trails through scrub habitat and along the spring run offer the best opportunities to see native wildlife. The award-winning and St. Johns River Cruises offers two hour narrated tours twice daily from the park. The cruise captain provides interactive narration of local and river history along with illustrated accounts of the numerous bird species, alligators and other wildlife that call the area home.

 DeLeon Springs State Park located in DeLeon Springs and adjacent to the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge, is also listed on the Great Florida Birding Trail. Activities include swimming in the spring pool, which is handicapped accessible, snorkeling, picnicking, canoe, kayak and paddleboat rentals. There are also boat ramps, fishing, nature and hiking trails, a native wildflower garden, playground and picnic pavilions. The famous Old Spanish Sugar Mill Restaurant features cook-your-own pancakes made from stone-ground flours. Make sure you arrive at the park early to get in due to limited parking. Interpretation of the park’s natural and cultural history is shared through kiosks and exhibits in a museum.
